Als beeldend kunstenaar werk ik in mijn atelier vaak met uiteenlopende soorten muziek op de achtergrond.
Het inspireert me, het geeft me rust en de gelegenheid om in de juiste sfeer te komen.
Ook wanneer ik zelf naar beeldende kunst kijk heb ik regelmatig associaties met muziek.
As a visual artist, I work in my studio while listening to serveral types of music. It inspires me, and it gives me the oppertunity to get in the right mood to paint. Also, when I look at art, I have all kinds of associations with music.
Toen ik op zoek was naar een aansprekende manier om jongeren met beeldende kunst in aanraking te brengen en eens op schoolpleinen ging kijken, zag ik hordes leerlingen met koptelefoon op. Ze luisterden naar hun favoriete muziek.
When I was in search for a way to get young people to get to know visual arts I went to highschools and talked to the kids. I saw a lot of kids wearing headphones, listening to their favourite music.
Ze luisteren naar muziek tijdens het fietsen en lopen, als ze in de bus zitten, terwijl ze studeren en ze zijn zelfs in staat dit te doen terwijl ze met elkaar praten.
Dus waarom niet luisteren naar muziek terwijl je kijkt naar beeldende kunst?
De muziek stimuleert het associatievermogen.
They were listening to music, while they were walking, talking, sitting in the bus, while studiing and were even able to do this while talking to each other. So, why not listen to music while looking at art? Music stimulates associative processes in the brains.

Match the two disciplines and introduce visual art through their interest fo music. Combine af familiar world with an unknown one.
Luisterend naar allerlei genres muziek, kijken de leerlingen met een gerichte opdracht naar kunst.
En met plezier.
In this project, the students listen to all kinds of music while looking at all kinds of arts, with a clear pupose: "which piece of art matches best to which music, according to your opinion'. And they enjoy it!
As simple as that!
